MOVE Program

At Salvin, our students participate in an amazing program that supports their ability to explore not just their classroom but to their entire school!  It is called the M.O.V.E. Program or Mobility Opportunities Via Education/Experience.  Our students are never limited by what they cannot do, but instead are provided opportunities to do the most with what they can do.

Skills and activities addressed by M.O.V.E.

  • sitting
  • standing
  • walking
  • running
  • transitioning between equipment and activities
  • dancing

As you can see, education at Salvin includes not just basic curriculum subjects such as communication, math, reading, and writing skills, but also moving and interacting with the world around them.

MOVE

So who participates in M.O.V.E.?

EVERYONE!!!  It is the goal of Salvin to create a safe and motivating environment for all of our students to explore and learn.  All teachers and classroom assistants at Salvin are MOVE trained and provided with guidance and additional support from a Physical Therapist (Susannah Guzman).  However, all staff at Salvin support the goals of MOVE through ensuring students safety while moving around campus, allowing students the opportunities to participate in classroom chores such as our office staff encouraging students to maneuver into the office to bring school attendance, and our cafeteria staff leaving lunches and breakfasts outside so that students must help bring meals back to each of their classrooms.  All student irregardless of disabilities are provided these opportunities.
